[PERSONALITY]
Once a very innocent, and naïve child at heart. In his newer years of adulthood, Link has taken on a more serious outlook to life. At least, this would be his case, for it is almost as if he is never capable of finding time to relax, with the kingdom of Hyrule at stake. However, for those very rare occasions when he is not faced with a challenge or any epic quest, when the young man can find time for himself or to cease any fighting, this would be the opportunity to reveal his true and more sensitive side. Regardless, any situation he is considerate to others and kind.
As a young boy, Link felt to be an outcast, despite wishing to be just like all of the other Kokiri he lived with. His former lack of a fairy was the reason for his formerly half-introverted self. He never chose to be alone, although there was one friend, if not his best friend as to this day, who stood by him. Saria, the Kokiri girl of who’s love and kindness towards others eventually reached out to the young hero. Of course, once she had gotten to know how free-spirited, cheerful, and brave Link was, she became attached to him as a best friend rather quickly. Because of this, many of the other Kokiri (especially Mido whom seemed to have some sort of crush on the girl), grew jealous of Link. However, needless to say, there was a reason as to why he felt somewhat different from the others, and why he never was deemed worthy of a fairy like a true Kokiri. Little did he know of his true heritage.
Back to the task at hand, his child-like self can be broken down to a few short but still to the point descriptions. Link was brave, kind, optimistic, possibly a little bit dorkish (at a lack of words; also to reflect back to when not in the face of battle), considerate to others, friendly to anybody whom he befriended, and would not hesitate to put his own life on the line if it came to ensuring someone else would be safe. Spoken like a true young hero.
However, it wasn’t until he was sealed away, upon entering the sacred realm, for seven long years, did he finally obtain his true and final persona. Upon awakening and being informed of his destiny and duty as the Hero of Time, his outlook on life had become much more serious from when he was previously a child. Also, he was faster, stronger, more endurable, this was basically about it. Because of his lapse of memory over the lost seven years and the sudden leap into adulthood, Link was left, basically, with the mind of a ten year old. Fortunately for Link, he was quick to learn and for his age previously, he was rather mature.
Even into his adult years, Link can sometimes be immature, though is very cheerful and optimistic. It would seem that he has developed somewhat of a confident streak, although he could only go so far and can get away without being called cocky. With the loss of his childhood, came the loss of innocence, though because of the lapse of memory from seven years in sacred slumber, there is still some of that child at heart from those long days and nights gone and faded into the past.
Link, in conclusion, is a definition of a true hero, overflowing with boundless courage, as he is capable to step up to any challenge without the will to give up.
[HISTORY]
It was the nearing end to a war in the kingdom of Hyrule. Blood was shed, shields splintered, swords shattered, and innocent lives were deprived of life. One dark and stormy night, there was a beautiful Hylian woman, cradling and holding a baby close in her arms. Wounded, even noticed as to be on the brink of death, she had little choice to travel as far as she could go. Somewhere, anywhere, anyone who could take her newborn child and raise it to become a noble and strong young man. All she wanted was for the infant to have a chance at life, for all would be lost. She was doomed to begin with, and with little time to spare, she happened upon her savior.
The mystical and luscious forest, the Kokiri Forest. The dieing mother was fortunate enough to escape to here. And she happened to find a newfound father for the infant. The Great Deku Tree, guardian and father to the inhabitants of the forest, Kokiri and other small creatures alike. Sensing that the boy would play a great role in the salvation and the future of Hyrule, he agreed to the mother’s terms, out of kindness. To raise this child, whom he sensed to be brimming with courage. The mother, before the presence of the spirit, died with smile.
The Great Deku Tree would raise the child as one of his own, one of the Kokiri, a Hylian in disguise almost. And when he came of age, or once destiny unraveled itself, it would be time that he fulfilled his destiny.
His name…was Link.
Growing up in the Kokiri Forest, Link was a rather shy, however not as much introverted quite yet, little boy. He had little to no friends just yet, and it was soon that he noticed and was curious as to the fairies that followed the older boys and girls. Of course, he discovered that when one became of age, or when fate came to them, a fairy would be with them for the rest of their life, to serve not only as a trusting friend, but as a knowledgeable guide in life. It wasn’t long, possibly around the age of eight, when Link would have likely received a fairy, none had come to him. Eventually, he was the only Kokiri in the forest to be with no fairy. Of course, he was labeled as an outcast by many of the Kokiri boys; some had even gone as far as to dubbing him ‘fairyless’, of course, his main bully was
the self-appointed leader of the people, Mido.
Link and Mido have had their differences, even getting into small little tussles on occasion, much to the displeasure of the Deku Tree. Anytime that the young blonde would ask of why he still remained without a fairy, the guardian of the forest would simply tell him to wait until the time was right. It would be a story that would be saved for another occasion, to Link’s dismay.
Some time had passed, and now labeled as fairyless or an outsider, he was slowly beginning to slip into a state of becoming introverted. Who knew that such simple words could have such an effect on the boy. It was because of his difference from the others that he had begun to develop a curious side to him. Even having dreams. What would it be like, to live outside of the forest, to see the entire world? Wishful thinking, however it was forbidden for a Kokiri to leave the forest or else they would soon perish. It was never explained why, however nobody had allowed the fairyless kid to take his leave ever. Alone save for a few friends, and no fairy of his own, it was one thing to keep Link feeling lonely.
But it also happened for him, despite not many friends, anybody he did meet, he was still the happy-go-lucky child. And this happened to get attention from a rather popular Kokiri girl. As to this day? Link still considers her to be his best friend; one of whom he will never forget, wherever he was. He would think of her, and how she reached out to him, and opened her gentle and sweet heart to him as well. Saria, whom had been all of kind to him, allowed for him to gain some sort of familiarity amongst the Kokiri once more, gaining new and more friends, allowing himself to be more open. More importantly, it gave him a chance to be himself. However, this would not change the opinion of one Mido, also there being a few other Kokiri who still considered the blonde a loser basically. The fighting and defending himself against bullies like him would only continue. Some things never did change.
And in more recent childhood events for the supposed Kokiri boy, were the nightmares. Not knowing that it was known as a castle, but there he was, outside of a large structure. Pouring rain upon him, however, he did have a fairy of his own. The front bridge was lowered, the thunder rolling and lightning crackling along what seemed to be a darkened vast field. And then, a horse was speeding out from inside, blazing by him. He could see, riding with a much taller woman (she couldn’t be a Kokiri!), a beautiful young girl she seemed really sad. And then, he would encounter a rather frightening and menacing man, who’s laugh only continued to ring in his ears from time to time, rendering Link incapable of sleeping at night. The dream would end, as the Gerudo man would aim what would be a deadly force at him.
And those nightmares? They happened again and again and again, never ending as they occurred more frequently. Now, Link was ten, and on a very faithful yet grim chapter in the history of Kokiri Forest, that would be the day forever known as him being the first Kokiri in a very long time to leave the woods. A parasitic fiend known as Gohma had laid siege upon the Great Deku Tree, nestling itself inside, eating away at the guardian from the inside, it’s evil power too destructive and dangerous for the tree to handle. With as much strength as he could muster, the tree summoned a fairy forth, one that would serve as a guide to Link. The main and starting reason for this fairy to find the boy and summon him was that he, of any of the boys, had near limitless courage. And so, Navi flew, fast and quickly in the attempt to seek out this so called ‘fairyless’ Kokiri.
Of course, at the time, Link was enduring another nightmare; yes the very same one to haunt and repeat in his mind. Navi happened to wake the sleepy and drowsy boy from his slumber. And of course, Link was overwhelmed with joy at the sight of a fairy, one having actually come to him now. Had there of been time and there was no crisis at hand, he would have marched straight to Mido’s and showed off his fairy; which of course, may have leaded to another pointless fight. But he was quickly informed, and headed for the Great Deku Tree, of course, after earning the right to enter, finding the legendary sword secretly in the forest, the Kokiri Sword and a simple Deku Shield from the local store.
What he was informed of, was a shock in the least. The Great Deku Tree had been cursed by the monster, Gohma, and he would need to test Link’s courage, to venture into the guardian tree, destroy the monster, free him of the curse, and prove his worth; and also, it was the tree’s opportunity to observe and feel for if what he believed when the baby arrived at his roots was true. Was he truly the boy destined to grow up and lead the world into a state of bliss? This was Link’s test. Of course, with much valor and determination, the boy entered, with Navi with him as a guide. Together, they expelled the evil within the tree. However, upon leaving the inside, they came back to find that his efforts were all for naught, as a means of rescuing the Great Deku Tree. And with the little time the guardian had left, with his short amount of words to spare, Link had been exposed to the truth of the world, who had placed the curse upon him, and in the end, was entrusted with the sacred stone. The Spiritual Stone of Forest, the Kokiri Emerald which the man of the Gerudo had tried so desperately to obtain that he went so far as to curse him. The Deku Tree shortly perished afterwards. It was a time for grieving but not so much was spent, as he and Navi were to continue onward, to the outside world. Upon leaving, there he met, what would be for one the last times, Saria. It was then, that the boy was entrusted with the Ocarina, her very own. Link would play it always for her, and anytime he would, she would always be in his heart, no matter what the times.
And now, with a stone in hand, and finally leaving the Kokiri Forest to continue onward on his quest, Link’s journey was about to unfold. Or perhaps, it had already begun. His next destination was the castle of Hyrule, upon arrival after his travels through the vast fields. The entrance however, struck familiar to him, but he had chosen to overlook it for now as he entered the market. With much difficulty and a helping hand from a young farm girl, Malon, Link was capable of breaking into the undetected. And there? It was where he would meet with another flash from his dreams. Here he was, face to face with the Princess of Hyrule. Zelda.
Names were exchanged, stories were shared, and now Link was faced and knew well now of who the man was that cursed the Deku Tree. Ganondorf, the king of thieves from the Gerudo tribe that which hailed to the far west. Link was given a new quest as well, to obtain the other two spiritual stones. The Goron Ruby and the Zora Sapphire. Once they were collected, and the melody of the Ocarina of Time was played in what was known as the Temple of Time, there would be the sacred realm, of which could have the power to defeat Ganondorf once and for all, thus saving Hyrule. Link, of course, accepted these terms and set out post-haste.
There were many hard battles, some laughs, some close calls, and many new friendships secured, but in the end, Link triumphed, all three spiritual stones intact. All that was left for the young hero was to return to Hyrule Castle to meet with Princess Zelda. He was realizing his destiny, and he would be a hero! A true man amongst the Kokiri. Saria would be proud of him. However, not all went according as to plan, as there he was, before the castle gates...reliving the nightmare. It was dark, stormy, the bridge lowered. And wouldn’t you know it, there came a familiar white horse, Impa and the princess riding upon it. She was sad again… But, she managed to throw something back, hoping he would catch it. However, her aim was slightly impaired with the current situation, and had sunk into the moat. Before he could manage an opportunity to obtain the mysterious item, the next phase to his dream had manifested itself into a bitter reality. There was Ganondorf, demanding where the two had escaped too. Link, however, never replied, only giving an answer in actions.
Link had drawn his sword on the Gerudo King. It had only provoked the man to laugh mockingly, of course with one swift move, he sent Link into submission before taking off into the midst of the storm. So powerless, incapable to fight, how could the blonde fight such a monster such as that? With a body like his, being a small and helpless child, just a poor helpless Kokiri warrior, he couldn’t defeat Ganondorf. However, he casted those despairs to the side for the short time being, diving into the moat to retrieve none other then the fabled Ocarina of Time. This was what she had meant to do. Link had all three spiritual stones, and the Ocarina of Time. He held the key to Hyrule’s salvation, and the promised land. All he needed to do, was go to the Temple of Time and trigger the correct sequence.
As he had arrived to the temple, it was there that he educated in, quite possibly the most important melody to any instrument of Hyrule. It was the final key to opening the door to the light, it would seem. The Song of Time. Once played, Link entered what was the gateway to the Sacred Realm. Where the holy and sacred Triforce was held in a sanctuary. Upon further inspection, there was the altar, upon it, embedded in a stone tablet. It was indeed, the mightiest weapon of them all.
The sword of legends. The Blade of Evil’s Bane. The Master Sword. With this weapon, could Link finally obtain the power needed to defeat Ganondorf and rid the land of all evil? Well, there was truly only one way to find out. Withdrawing the large sword from the Pedestal of Time, he was soon enveloped in an unusual light. What happened next, was a complete mystery. Almost as if…he had all of a sudden been wiped off of the face of the earth. He was left to be dormant in the sacred realm, to grow, to rest in slumber until the proper time came.
Seven years later…Link was awakened from his deep state of slumber, by an elderly but demanding and noble voice. Upon opening his eyes for the very first time, was a man before him. A man named Raoru, the Sage of Light whom watched over the Temple of Light. With further inspection? He finally looked down to himself, feeling much taller then before. He was built, strong, more manly, but even more to the point? He was a full grown adult! Now was the time to act.
Link had awoken, his former child body incapable of wielding the Blade of Evil’s Bane. He was, the legendary Hero of Time. His first concerns were of the Princess and what became of her, because, yes, the now young man was informed of the passing events in his absence. Ganondorf was no longer a simple king of a desert. But more like a tyrant that governed all that was evil. The King of Evil. And what could Link do? The first concern of the hero was to put an end to Ganondorf.
However, not all adventures were without hardships, as he was quick to be informed by Raoru that Link must undergo another task before being able to finally confront the wicked king of sheer malice. Conveniently, upon the Hero of Time’s awakening, Raoru had awoken as the Sage of Light, one of six that served as entities that governed multiple regions of Hyrule. If he was able to awaken the other five sages and receive their support via medallions that housed their power for him to carry with him always, only then would he have enough power to rival Ganondorf’s threatening might and allow courage to ultimate persevere. It was all a matter of if Link was ready to accept such a task, the fate of Hyrule and the world itself resting entirely in his hands…the very hands that wielded the Master Sword. He had already come so far, to never fail. Hyrule depended on him…
Zelda depended on him.
Upon exiting the Temple of Light and returning to the cold future, seven years beyond his own timeline, with a mission in mind and a fiery determination ablaze within his heart, the Hero of Time prepared to set out on a grand adventure. Before he could leave, however, it was at this time that he would be met with an enigmatic individual. Startled at first, he was quick to realize that this person was indeed no enemy, but a complete and total mystery. Spoken like a poet, the words of the Sheikah warrior were passionate, wise, and very insightful. His name was Sheik; he would remember that name well in his journey, for this would not be the last time that he encountered the graceful man.
With his trustworthy fairy by his side and the power of the Master Sword, the Hero of Time sought out for the five sages desperate to be awoken within temples; one in the depths of the forest, one beyond the mountains and within a blazing inferno, one in the depths of a lake, one cloaked in a veil of darkness, and one beyond golden fields of sand. Such were the locations of the legendary sages. And such would be the destinations that Link would set out for. Returning home to the Kokiri Forest, much to his dismay he discovered that even this sacred land was soiled by evil. What was even more surprising was the fact that he was surrounded by his old friends once more; there was just one peculiar problem… None of them had grown up in the past seven years. He was the only Kokiri to have gained height and a new appearance. Perhaps this had to do with the influence on the land that the King of Evil was having? Link ventured further within the Lost Woods, into the Sacred Meadow and past the now invading Moblins set there by Ganon himself. The Forest Temple was here, and was supposedly where a sage was in desperate need of awakening. The structure was complex, and after many twists and turns through the dungeon, he soon received a taste of what he was up against.
Ganondorf had created a phantom replica of himself to square off against the Hero of Time, and was the one responsible for the chaos running amuck in the Kokiri Forest. It was a hard battle, but with the help of his trusty bow, he was able to outsmart this ghoul and strike him down. The evil that loomed over the Kokiri Forest was gone now, banished to the realm between dimensions as Link entered a familiar chamber, one that shared many similarities to Raoru’s Temple of Light. Surprisingly, after seven years, he was reunited with his best friend… Saria was the true Sage of Forest, awakening most recently after Link vanquished Phantom Ganon. Simple words were exchanged as Link received the Forest Medallion, adding further to his collection as he became one step closer to his goal of confronting Ganondorf. But before his ventures in the Kokiri Forest would be finished, there was one final agenda in his former home.
With the evil eradicated from the forest, he soon found himself face to face with a new hope for the woods; the Great Deku Sprout, one day to become another Deku Tree that could govern the forest and act as a guardian to the Kokiri. At this time, it was then revealed to him that he was not a Kokiri, but in fact a Hylian, much like the other civilians he may have seen as a child in the town market. With his origins more clear, it was then that he could finally set off to the further reaches of Hyrule in order to awaken the remaining four sages.
Through many hardships and challenges that laid themselves out before the Hylian swordsman, Link eventually succeeded in freeing the sages and obtaining their medallions; whether it was by slaying the dragon that threatened the Gorons of Death Mountain, freeing his older friend Epona from a slaving ranch, liberating the Zora people of their icy graves from the monster that rested in the Water Temple, venturing into the horrific shadows to free Impa who became the Sage of Shadows, or crossing a brutal desert to do battle with the wicked Gerudo sorceresses, Twinrova, the Hero of Time triumphed, realizing that the time had come to face Ganondorf, but not before he was beckoned forth to the Temple of Time once more…
Fate was about to unveil itself before his very eyes. Sheik met with Link at the Temple of Time, prepared to reveal a most marvelous secret. It was also at this time that he revealed to Link that by also obtaining the Master Sword and becoming the Hero of Time, that he was also blessed by the Goddesses with the Triforce of Courage, the whole entity itself being split among three significant people; Power having been given to Ganondorf. Wisdom on the other hand…was closer then he may have expected. The third piece began to shine beautifully upon the back of the Sheikah’s hand before becoming practically blinded by it’s majestic power. When the hall became clear once more, Link found himself face to face with, surprisingly, the final sage to create seven in total…
Princess Zelda was this mysterious Sheik all along; necessary to evade Ganondorf’s forces that did nothing but continuously search for her, in hopes that he could get his hands upon the Triforce of Wisdom, and eventually Courage. However, unveiling herself at that time had proven to be a rather faulty mistake as shortly after showing Link who she truly was, she was encased within a crystal. Ganondorf had found her… With a request to Link to come to his castle if he wished to see her again, the Hylian couldn’t refuse. With the power of the sages behind him, he took to pursuing the King of Evil back to his stronghold…where Hyrule Castle once stood, there was a horrendous sight. Ganon’s Castle, suspended by magic over a pit of boiling lava; fortunately the awoken sages were prepared for this, combining their power in order to create a bridge for Link to cross.
It was time; the ultimate Showdown was soon to begin.
Link stormed the castle, climbing staircase after staircase as he grew closer to the top of the tower, an organ beginning to echo through the tower, as if to signify that he was almost there. Upon finally reaching the tower top, the Hero of Time was faced with the King of Evil, face to face after seven years awaiting a rematch after last time’s humiliating quarrel. With Ganon’s dark power so immense that even Navi couldn’t get close enough to detect a weak-point, it truly became a battle that only he alone could undergo. Pitting the power of the Master Sword up against Ganondorf’s arsenal of dark magic, the battle was epic until finally, the Hylian triumphed in striking the King of Evil down and freeing Zelda. But not before he could, with his dieing breath, bring the entire castle into an uproar as it began to collapse. Together, the wielders of the Triforce of Wisdom and Courage escaped the tower, with nothing but rubble of a once colossal empire to remain.
Power, however, had it’s ways with defying the impossible. From the destruction of the broken tower, Ganondorf arose once again to challenge the hero for ever questioning his might. The Triforce of Power radiated violently upon his hand before beginning to transform his own body into something rather sinister. With two blades in hand, moderately scaly and much larger then before, Ganon assumed a monstrous form. This was the fallen King of Evil’s final stand, as it was the same for the Hero of Time. With blades clashing as Link even went through a portion of the battle with the Master Sword disabled from him, the battle raged on as the two sides struggled for superiority.
Light versus Darkness.
Through the aid of Princess Zelda as she bound him down with light, the Master Sword’s full power was realized as Link finished the deed, slash after slash before finally impaling the relentless king through the skull. It seemed that so long as Ganon possesses the Triforce of Power, that it would very difficult to end his life; the next option was to permanently ban him to the sacred realm, where he could never escape so long as the seal was never broken. It was exactly what Zelda and her fellow sages did, with Ganon weakened after the battle with Link, they created the seal to lock Ganon away within the realm, never to escape….but not before he could swear a curse upon Zelda, the sages, and Link himself; to vow that one day that he would wreck havoc upon his descendants.
It was over, after such a long quest; the Hero’s heart soon lead him to Princess Zelda once more, their final meeting taking place within the clouds. Or at least, this is where he felt he had been taken. Zelda apologized to him once more, knowing that she had involved him into something so dangerous. However, the wise young woman was willing to redeem herself, settling everything in the end once and for all; for a better past and for a brighter future. The Hero of Time would need to play his part in this as well; after returning home, he would need to return the Master Sword into the pedestal of time, where it would rest for all of eternity, the Door of Time permanently sealed as peace would reign supreme in the land of Hyrule. Much to Link's dismay, however, once he entrusted the Ocarina of Time back into the hands of the Princess and fulfilled this final task, he may never see her again. With only so little time to have been reunited after seven years, a piece of him was pained by such a thought; however, he was also overwhelmed with happiness in which he had rescued the land, and protected Princess Zelda in the process...that perhaps in the past...destiny would bring them together once more.
As Link was about to return the Ocarina of Time into Zelda's posession, as he accepted returning home to reclaim his childhood and create new memories...
The Hero of Time was drafted.
